Autumn continues

Two weeks ago I went out and took some photos of autumn, which I posted on my blog. I have managed to go out again, and take some more pictures, which has been awesome, as I really love this weather and the lovely changes that are happening all around. I must admit, I am a sucker for a nice autumn walk in the forest, when the leaves are raining down on my head and all around me is the rustle of small animals amongst the dead leaves and the scurrying of squirrels, collecting their nuts for the coming winter. Nature seems to be calming down, settling into the cold and preparing to weather the winter “storms”.

My newest autumn pictures are again a collection of small things that all form part of autumn: seeds, flowers, trees and animals.

Week 2: Sleep

Last week I started my 52-week project. For this week I wanted to do a French theme because I have such a cute little hat…but somehow those pictures didn’t turn out right, so I decided to go with a “sleepy” theme, as I have felt really tired the past week. (How’s that for inspiration??)

After several attempts, where my aim was wrong (it’s difficult to take a picture when I can’t stand behind the camera and look!) or the focus didn’t quite catch the right part, I’ve at last settled on a shot that looks like what I had in mind. Again I used only the 50mm lens, which makes it sometimes a bit difficult, especially when there are space constraints, but I’ve managed to make it work and I like the result. (A big thank you to my trusty tripod for doing such an excellent job again!)

Like last week, I decided to change it to black and white, because somehow it works better for this image, as it adds a certain elusiveness to the picture, which I find goes well with sleep – almost as if the picture were taken in Dreamland.

Autumn photo walk

Two days ago I went for a nice walk through St James Park in London and managed to get some lovely images. The colours are awesome at the moment and only getting better as autumn progresses. The coolest thing about my photo walk was that I managed to finally get a shot of a squirrel (which I’ve been trying to get for some months now, but those little creatures are just too quick!). I was actually trying to get it as it was further away from me, but they are really curious and so it came up to me so fast that I had to pull back so I could focus on it. I think the shot turned out really well though!

What amazed me, was that I found some new plant shoots. I didn’t think that autumn was the time for new growth to come up, but it seems there are quite a few plants that like this kind of weather. I captured two different new shoots that look like they could be spring photos.

On this walk I used my 50mm f1.8 lens, as I am trying to improve my composition and also because I simply adore the quality of photos taken with the 50mm lens. I can’t wait to go out again and capture some more glorious nature.
