Week 18: Books

I love books. No question about it. If I could, I would probably spend all my time stretched out on my bed, or cuddled under the blankets (depending on the weather), devouring my books. It’s not just that I like reading them, I also like owning books. I cannot walk past a second-hand bookstore without pausing and most often entering. I have my favourite authors, my favourite genres and my favourite books. But I am always willing to find new ones. I do prefer older books, those which were written before 1980; somehow back then writers weren’t as vulgar and there was less perversion. Of course I’m speaking primarily about the genres I like to read: romance, thrillers, crime-fiction and humour.

These last couple of weeks I’ve managed to squeeze in quite a few books, even though I’ve been super busy with work and the still ever-present need to find a house. It’s really frustrating, and I guess reading somehow takes my mind off it and gives me a breather. I love that about books. And movies. But that’s another topic for another day.

So, this week’s photo is dedicated to one of my biggest hobbies: READING!

Week 16: Upside down

week16 My 16th week of taking a photo a week has arrived, or as a matter of fact almost ended. It’s Sunday night and the end of the holidays are here. Life can be so upside down sometimes. Just when you get settled into the holidays, work comes back around and turns everything on its head. I enjoyed having time to devote to photography, swimming, resting and finally getting around to reading the books that I had lying around. I have a lot of books still waiting to be read. Maybe I will sneak a few in when no one is looking.

Speaking of upside down, it’s a fun way of taking photos. I did struggle to figure out where to select the focus point, but trial and error usually works best for things like that. The white balance was a bit difficult, as I took the photo in a room with only natural light coming in from the windows, and the light reflecting off a dark orange wall. Somehow that completely threw the RAW importer in Photoshop, so I stuck to my camera’s chosen white balance and I like the result. So here’s to celebrating and sometimes only surviving the upside down-ness of life.
